First steps towards your own TGP
An adult webmaster resource...
I guess that most people here have either seen, visited, or even submitted some pages to a Thumbnail Gallery Post / TGP. But have you ever thought of running your own one? They can be a big source of traffic to you that will grow over time and you can get a lot of your direct sales from your own TGP also. I've been running one for over a year now and I've had successes with both traffic AND sales.
Some important thoughts...
Now, before we get to the meat and bones of these first early steps, a word in your ear! Puh-lease don't crank out yet another TGP that offers all of the hardcore material away for free. One of the rules that I have on my TGP is that the galleries have to be totally softcore - no sex or anything that I can sell them on my Paysite or at the sponsor's site. And also be kind to your fellow webmasters. Let in pages that have only 5 or ten pictures and a decent amount of advertising.
More thinking before ya start!
So you've looked at TGPs, TGP2s, and you've decided to go for it - what NEXT? Well don't go out and buy a script, or start looking for a domain just yet. Let's think carefully about what this TGP is going to be about. At this moment in time, the adult net is not THAT old. I say that because there are still a lot of niche TGPs that need to be built. There's plenty of regular "pretty girl" TGPs but think carefully about starting something specialized. I went for http://www.footfetishtgp.com and I get less traffic than a straight sexy TGP but I've carved out a niche for myself.
Look for the gaps in the market!
The core of your TGP and my first disaster...
My first TGP was pretty much a flop. It was a big failure and didn't make much cash or sales. One f the major problems was that it took around an hour each day to update it. And we're not talking thousands of submissions here - there were only a few really. But the problem was I had to do everything by hand, submissions were sent to my email and then I had to go check the sites and do the updates. After a while, I got bored and realized the time could be better spent elsewhere.
Take 2 and a free script!
My new TGP first used a script that cost around $200. It showed me all the galleries that had been submitted and then I said yes or no to them. No editing pages, no uploading - just a yes or no click! A while later, I made my own script which listed the recently added pages at the top of the page and dated them all, along with some other great features. If you're going to start a TGP, then use my script - it's free and might just be what you're looking for:

Early days and building up...
Once you've got the script set up, your TGP will probably look pretty bare. Even with the BEST script in the world in place, it will still look like an ugly white page with only a submission link on there - if that!
Don't despair - all good TGP's grow up over a period of months. This is just the beginning. Think first about some colors. Then work on your rules page, and then on some recip links and buttons. Then how about a nice logo that will help get your TGP in the minds of your surfers? Spend some time on this too. Then you have to get the SURFERS to your TGP as well as the webmasters - and that's a whole different post altogether.
Happy site building.
