Writing your own ads

An adult webmaster tutorial...

Written by Tom from Tom's Newbie Booster

If you're new to this business, and you've just been signing up with sponsors, or even reading some of the articles around, you'll probably have heard a lot about banners. Banners are still the main form of advertising on the Internet and if you go to most free websites out there in ANY area - cars, computers, news, you'll find a healthy dose of banner advertising. As an adult webmaster, you're going to have to learn how to write ads for your own sites as well as use pre-made graphics.

Overcoming initial fears

It doesn't really matter if you've never written anything before. Writing what we call "text links" for your adult website will get easier with time and there are a number of things that you can do to help yourself make it a lot easier. Writing ads is a skill and there's many ways to go about it but it's important to remember in the beginning that anyone can learn to write good sales text for their adult sites. It's your text links that will make you the real $$.

Researching other sites

If this is day ONE in the business for you, or even if you've been doing this a while, here's an exercise. Lock yourself away with the computer for an hour (so that the kids aren't gonna stumble into something adult on the screen, and then take out your pen and notebook. Start at maybe http://www.google.com and then later move on to http://www.persianKitty.com. Start looking through the adult sites you find there, writing down ANY text links which you think are interesting, which make you want to find out more about the sponsor, or which are simply DIFFERENT from the thousands you're going to see.

This will be an invaluable reference when you come to writing your own links, and it will help you see just what a text link is, and what it should say.

KISS!

Keep It Short & Simple! Surfers have a very short span of attention in most cases, so if you're going to get them to one of your sponsors, you've probably got a short space of time in which to do it. You need to give them a VERY good reason to check out your prime sponsor FAST!

Start off with a BOLD heading, something like, "LIVE FETISH SHOWS!" and then fill them in on some of the detail on the next line - what's IN that show? How long? WHO is in it? Tell them how kinky it is, how BIZARRE! Make them feel like they're missing out on something they'd love to see. When you've finished a text link, go back and cut it down as much as you can - you'll be left with something far more potent! Less is more.

Some angles to take...

Here are some starting points for some of your own text ads:

I found these pictures of my wife... [Talking as the HUSBAND]
Watch me slowly undress and then... [Talking as the MODEL]
Hey, you've got to check out this site... [Talking as the SURFER]
Our member's area is much more hardcore... [Talking as a SITE OWNER]

Remember, you can pretend to be anyone you want to be and as you're creating fantasy here, there's no limitations. Learn to play out roles of different people in different NICHES. For example, you don't have to by gay to sell a gay site.

Adding YOU to the mix

With all the competition out there on the web at the moment, you're going to have to come up with something original to add to your text links if you're going to a) get the surfer's attention and b) keep it long enough to make your sponsor's site sound like the best thing in the WORLD. Use your personality and imagination and be wild, make them laugh, stop them in their tracks, say something ridiculous but above all be inventive and come up with something fresh.

Happy text link writing!!!
