First of all, I'd like to welcome Mia to the board here as well as another new poster, Freshloads. Thanks for posting guys and I see that you're both interested in getting more TRAFFIC to your sites. Sounds like you're both getting a little but finding that in this business, too little can mean either few sales or none at all. So let's recap your options on getting more traffic at the end of 2001...

RATING: Newbie to advanced.

Dmoz - the name brings up mixed reactions with adult webmasters. It's basically a huge directory of all kinds of websites - covering every topic that you can imagine. AND it's got it's fair share of adult sites too. It's free to get into Dmoz and you can expect traffic both FROM dmoz and from it's partner sites such as the massive AOL. It's kinda tough to get in because you have to abide by the rules and there's a limit to the amount of ads you can use and so on.

Here's some things that can stop you getting listed:

1. Money bars that dont look like they go to sponsors.
2. Hard to find enter links.
3. More banners than pics.
4. Ads are too big.
5. Too many adds before the pics.
6. More than one console.
7. Pics are too small or too poor quality.
7. Blind links on freehost banners.

There's many pay-per-inclusion programs out there on the web but Yahoo's is still the daddy of them all. This traffic MONSTER has been around since the dawn of the web and a listing here will net you a lot of daily traffic - even after your 'new' status has faded away. I've been in Yahoo for coming up to 2 years now and even in the obscure category I am in, I get around 50 - 100 surfers per day. Getting in is tricky but they'll tell you why you didn't get listed and you get a chance to fix it and still get in. Pretty good, but $600 might be a bit steep for what ya get.

Link lists are still a good source of traffic but the problem that they are giving too much away will lower the % of people you can send off to a sponsor and increase your bandwidth. The fact that they are still around is testimony to the fact that they ARE still a valuable source of traffic and also an INSTANT source of traffic. Mirroring is essential here if you're to benefit from all of the link lists out there, and make the most of one of your sites. Lots of traffic but you're gonna have to be GOOD to make use of it.

One of the largest sources of traffic out there and very hard to get these guys to a sponsor. They're used to seeing lots of hardcore free movies in every category possible and it's getting more of a problem as time goes by. BUT the gargantuan numbers involved make TGPs still a profitable and realistic way to turn a buck on the adult web. You're gonna need lots of bandwidth, CHEAP, and you better know how to convert tough traffic 100% or these guys will nuke you where you stand.

NOTE: The new TGP2 system is way better to get into - higher clickthroughs and less pics required per gallery. Sadly, the traffic is low right now BUT it's increasing every day...

Inktomi is a search engine that you can pay your way into. BUT that don't mean you'll get any traffic just for paying the inclusion fee. It's not that simple. You'll have to work hard on optimizing the pages that you have in the index and eat, sleep and breath Inktomi optimization if you're going to succeed here. Your page will be spidered every 48 hours or so and you'll get instant feedback as to how well your latest efforts went in getting your page to the top of the rankings. Hard work, but can be very rewarding.

Link Trades
RATING: Newbie to advanced.

Trading links is free, easy, and builds lasting and reliable traffic. You can trade links with fellow adult webmasters that you meet here or on other boards. You just add a link from your main or index page back to your contact's index or main page and you can do it from free sites, your own link lists or TGP pages, or anywhere you feel like. Try to trade links from equal-traffic pages so that it's fair for both you and your partner. This is a great, and often overlooked way to build up your traffic from the word GO!

There's an expression that 'submitting is only the first step' and boy is that true with the search engines. There's lots of research and hard work to be done and if you're not getting at least your index pages ranked in these babies then it's time to re-evaluate and do some MORE study. Make sure you keep abreast of which engines are the BIG guys today and bookmark the essential SE resources that will help you keep on top of all the latest changes. Persist and work hard to find out how to make a page 'search engine friendly'.

If you can get ANY traffic - even a few surfers, then you are not doing too badly. You've reached out to some people - even if it's a limited number and not as many as you need to make some serious money. Carefully evaluate even TINY successful results and make sure that you're not missing something that may be working. By repeating even the smallest of positive results many times, you can build up the traffic that you really need. This is probably the main basis for my working method in this business.

Experiment - look for the sparks, and then fan them into roaring fires!
