Traffic is HARD to get! ... Isn't it?

An adult webmaster resource...

Search engine woes...

As I'm sure you know, the search engines have been changing a lot lately. Google has expanded into something nothing short of a gigantic player in the SE market. Many of the search engines that used to send mega traffic to porn sites (like our old mate Altavista) have started charging for admission to their indexes. Even paying to get in to the search engines is not a golden ticket to getting traffic.

While it's more than a bit worrying to think that so much adult webmaster traffic comes from, and is controlled by one place, there's really not much we can do about it. And not submitting there does not make good business sense. So I'd advise you to work more with Google.com for starters.

A common misconception with search engines is, "if you submit, they will come". In reality - persistence plays a major part in getting good search engine traffic. Come up with a large plan designed to increase the number of pages you have in Google.com. Take the SEO tips I've posted here, that you've found other places, and ideas that just make sense (like thinking what YOU would want in your index if YOU were a search engine) and then plan to make literally hundreds of targeted pages.

I'll come back to SE traffic in a second, but now let's look at something else...

A traffic target per domain

Lasting traffic. That's an important part of making it today, as it was in the beginning of this business. If you do not build up lasting traffic, where surfers keep coming in day after day, then it's going to be hard to increase traffic. If I submit to a link list, and their traffic dries up after a few days, I'm back to square one. (Unless I keep submitting there). If I submit to a link list but increase traffic by 10 surfers per day per site I submit - then something's working. Look for lasting traffic - it's the kind you can increase.

Back to traffic per domain. Domains are $15. At that price, you do not need much success with each one for it to be a profitable investment. If a domain gets 20 surfers per day, then that's around 7300 per year. If you send 10% of that to a sponsor, then that's at least a sale at a conversion ratio of even 1:730. For our initial investment of $15, we probably made $30 - $40.

But why am I telling you this? Well, it's an example of how each domain can play their part. When it comes to traffic - you need to think about the overall picture, and how each domain is going to build up your business. One figure I LOVE is 500 surfers per domain, per day. That is not so hard to build up and maintain, and if you have 100 domains doing that, then you're going to have some serious traffic. 100 x 500 = 50,000 surfers per day. Is that a bullshit figure? Try it. It's not hard to do - you just have to think of the overall picture. As you're working to goals like that, you learn and make money along the way.

BUT HOW!?!?!

Once you think up a number like that, it's time to do a brief plan of how you're going to get that traffic. Divide it up between a series of things like this:

How will I get 500 surfers to this domain?

TGP2 traffic = 150 / day
Search engine traffic = 50 / day
Link Trades = 50 / day
Link list traffic = 100 / day
Dmoz / Directory traffic = 50 / day
Your own fake link lists & TGP2s = 50 / day
Small TGPs = 50 / day

If my math is correct, that's your 500 surfers per day to each domain. You can then break it down further. I'll go through each section and make notes as to how I plan to get that traffic.

TGP2 traffic = 150 / day
Probably take about 10 galleries, each with mirrors.

Search engine traffic = 50 / day
10 pages / mini sites getting 5 per day.

Link Trades = 50 / day
Not sure - will keep trading 'till I get there.

Link list traffic = 100 / day
2 large sites, with mirrors to 50 smallish link lists.

Dmoz / Directory traffic = 50 / day
Will make 5 Dmoz sites, 10 surfers per day.

Your own fake link lists & TGP2s = 50 / day
Will list 10 pages and hopefully get 5 surfers per day.

Small TGPs = 50 / day
Will submit to 100 TGPs - maybe even a large one with archives.

As you can see from this, my 500 surfers per domain are not going to come easily. If I am to build up 100 domains like this, and to also maintain their ads, and the traffic coming to them - I've got a hell of a lot of work to do. There's also going to be requirements for content, and also for domain names and hosting. But can you see how building up 500 surfers per domain (and beyond) isn't impossible? It's a case of planning and then working very hard towards the targets. It might take well over a year to get 100 domains to this level. But successful completion should get you making some serious money.

Investment - sad facts!

As for search engine traffic, the sad fact is that it's not free anymore (with the exception of Google and a few others). If you're not using paid inclusion, then you're missing out - there's no 2 ways about that. Some folks don't NEED paid inclusion or PPC systems because they do OK with the traffic they have, but things have changed on the web and we don't have the luxury of being able to submit free to all the search engines any more.

Domains are not cheap either. In the example above, 100 domains would cost you $1500, and then there's the hosting. THEN there's the content on top of that too - and what price do you put on your time? This is why making it for free these days is harder than it ever was. If you're not coming into this business with some money, you're gonna hit problems.

Hope this plan, and these notes help some folks.

Good luck!!!
