As most of you know - in this business you have to work for QUANTITY as well as quality. Newer sites do well and the more niche and fetish areas you cover - the better your cheque at the end of the months will be. I've been building for the foot fetish area for a long time now and I have not covered half of what I have to. THEN a new sponsor comes out or I find a new vein within the fetish that I can build sites for. It's VERY exciting. But with all this building in mind - I wanted to write a few *TIPS* that should help keep you sane...
RECYCLE OLD CODE
... Once you have a banner on your server or you have designed a text link - open those pages in your editor - whichever one you like to use - and copy and paste those old ads onto your new sites. Using this method, you can really save yourself the trouble of making a new ad each time you build a page for a mini site or a full sized site. I will make one text link or ad and then use it over and over - perhaps 100 times before I re-do it again. You CAN customize it slightly to suit the vein you are working but that adds on only seconds.
USE TEMPLATES
Make a folder on your hard disk called TEMPLATES and keep in there copies of sites that you have built that you really like or that have done well with sales or on the Search Engines. Each time you build a site use them as the framework - even if you plan to do a lot of customization. (Which is wise - the SEs can throw pages out if they are TOO alike...) I have rarely ever built a page from scratch in the past couple of years - it is a waste of time when you can start with the basics with an older site or webpage.
GET AN IMAGE CATALOG PROGRAM
There are lots of these around and what they do is show you the contents of an image folder on your hard disk with little thumbs of each banner and picture. This will save you absolutely HOURS of work over a period of time when you are hunting around for a banner to put on your site. I use this when I am building sites in sub-folders on my domains. I check to see what banners are already on the domain so that I can re-use them and decide which ones to put where. It will save you hours picking relevant content out from your collection for new sites too.
RECYCLE PICS!
So you're making a sub-folder site or a content doorway page? Don't waste server space and your time by uploading new pics all the time - wherever possible use the ones already on the server - thumbs and all. Using this technique I can add content to a new site in seconds. It takes away the need to go and generate all those thumbs, resize the pics and all the other things you'd ordinarily need to do with fresh pics. Don't worry too much about the surfer - if they want the good stuff - let 'em PAY for it
LEARN NoteTab
http://www.notetab.com - this is a REALLY good package for making pages REALLY fast which is weird as it's a raw HTML code editor. BUT they have hot buttons on the left of the screen that insert any code you like - from something very simple like an <H1> tag all the way up to a table of links. The really good thing that I use this for is to insert my sponsor link code. You just select the pic or text you want to be a link and then double click on that sponsor's button and BOOM! It makes it a link with full rollover code too - in less than a second. It does a lot of other time-saving things as well and I'd be VERY lost without it. The FREE version is as good as the full retail product.
LEARN TO BUILD CGI TEMPLATES
If you want a real challenge that will save you HOURS of work in the long run - pay someone to make you a CGI script that will do ALL of the work for you or write one yourself. This is really high end stuff that I am just getting into but it's possible to make a script that will generate anything from a page to a full sit for you with banners and text links and the works. I have a simple script a little like this that saves me hours. Each page takes around 30 seconds to generate and save to the hard disk and then I go and customize them so that they don't look like spam and are not spam It's tricky to get set up but it can be very rewarding...
