Secrets of amazing sign-up ratios
An adult webmaster article...
Before I get into some fundamental ideas on cranking up your sales, and getting the most from the traffic you're getting, remember this: EVERY adult webmaster out there DOES get bad sign-up ratios from time to time. It's a 100% normal part of this business, so don't sweat it if you're not seeing superb results in the early days. You will - it just takes time to find what works and to get the ball rolling.
HOLD IT! What's a ratio?
Where are my manners? I'm forgetting that this is a board for fresh adult webmasters!
If you're just getting into adult webmastering, then you'll hear the term 'ratio' a lot. "I've got a one in two hundred ratio with this program..." might be something you'll hear someone say or post on a forum. All it means is the number of sales to the number of surfers you sent. Simple huh?
If I send my sponsor 1000 surfers, and get 2 sales, I've got a one in 500 sign-up ratio (1:500). It's just a way to gauge how well your traffic is performing. 1:250 or lower is good, 1:500 is normal and 1:2000 could mean there's something going wrong.
Why keep em down at all?
It could be that you get a lot of traffic and that a 1:3000 ratio is OK for you, but in most cases webmasters try to aim for more sales from whatever traffic they are getting. And of course, if you're not GETTING a lot of traffic in the first place, then it's even more important to make the most of it and get as many sales as possible. Improving sign-up ratios is something that everyone should work on, and there's no reason why anyone can't get 1:150 ratios or even better if they keep refining the way they send the surfers to a money making link.
Don't think you need a lot of surfers coming in to your sites to make good money. If you're focusing on a specialist group of surfers (which you always should), and matching them carefully to a sponsor's Paysite or AVS site that will blow them away, then you should see good ratios and profits even from a little traffic.
Matching the ad to the tour...
One thing that works really well is to be honest with your horny little visitors. Always take the tour of the Paysite you're promoting - that's the first step. Then start making the ads - which might be all text, or a combination of text you've written and some of the graphics your sponsors have up for grabs. You might even make your own graphics or grab some with an image capture program. The main thing that you'll want to do here is make sure that when Joe Surfer gets interested in one of your ads, and follows the link, he's not suddenly catapulted to a tour which is something completely different to what you promised him.
This is an important part of getting good sign-up ratios so let's look at some BAD examples here:
1) BOOM - you grab the surfer with your line about "STREAMING LIVE MOVIES" and he clicks it and checks out the tour. Oops! There's no mention of live movies on the first page - or the next 3.
2) You've got an advert with an amateur theme, talking about a specific girl - using her name and pic. "See what she gets up to..." and so on. But when your surfer clicks to the tour - this model is nowhere to be seen. To make things worse this is just a regular 18teen site - not amateur.
3) You've made your own graphics but haven't checked out the tour's style. The surfer loved your own ad graphics / text links but the design theme and continuity was broken once they got to the Paysite. It should have been a smooth transition.
KEEP YOUR WORD! Say what you see and not what you THINK should be there... The Paysite influences the tour which should influence the ads. It never works the other way round.
Misleading links & blind links...
If I have a link that says something like "FREE PICS" - and link that straight to a sponsor, then I'm not doing anything majorly wrong. The porn police aren't going to hammer down my door and drag me away kicking and screaming, "but they're leeches!" And indeed a percentage of the surfers that follow that link WILL actually like what they see and sign up. Let's also not forget that there's a point where a surfer will NEVER click and ad willingly - so screw those guys and gals - it's not going to do any harm to send that group of viewers with a blind link. But let's not forget the dangers of using blind links ALL of the time, or using them too early on...
If your sites are 100% blind links - and I mean the most misleading variety - then you WILL see bad sign-up ratios. Even if you were lucky enough to get 100% pure search engine traffic, you'd still have some problems and be seeing lousy ratios. If you want really good ratios, the kind even your grandmother would have been proud of, then try to get the surfer interested in your sponsor's Paysite rather than slapping a million dirty links in front of 'em. Take the tour and ask yourself what you could use from there which even the most experienced surfer might get excited over. Think about what they can get for free out there and then tease them with the things they CAN'T.
The price - qualifying 'em...
FACT: Things change on the Internet from day to day. If you were to leave this business for only a few months, when you came back - you'd have to learn about the new developments in advertising technologies, building adult websites, and the latest on what works and makes $$. But there's one little trick that has worked a charm for me since the very beginning, and that I use to this day to get the kinds of ratios I like. That's adding the PRICE under an advert. An example might be something like:
HARDCORE BI-GIRL MOVIES
$2-99 for 3 days FULL access
Sometimes I put the price in small print - other times I'll make it almost as large as the headings on my ads. If you get a surfer to click an ad like that - and they KNOW there could be a fee involved - you've got yourself some PURE gold. You really don't need many surfers like that to make some serious cash. Of course - you've REALLY got to do a good job in the bit before the price, and capture that surfer's imagination hard and fast - but if you can do that, and show them something they REALLY want, then chances are they will click.
Honesty goes a long way. Do you get put off when you see the price of something on a TV advert? Sometimes it can actually HELP you make your mind up about buying something - especially if it's a reasonable price. Many surfer's DO NOT realize that buying porn is as cheap as $2-99 - so it's your job to get the message out.
Think, "ALL THIS FOR ONLY $2-99!" - rather than, "Erm... I'm sorry, but there's a fee... sorry..."
Experiment!
If you want ratios of 1:50 - 1:100 then they're very attainable - and it's got a hell of a lot to do with HOW you send those people to your money making links. This applies to anyone sending traffic to a sponsor, an AVS site or some other kind of money-making link. Play, experiment, and watch those ratios.
GOOD LUCK!
