Full page ads, you, and the search engines...

Imagine if someone loaned you a team of designers for a day, to make you some incredibly hot webpages for your adult business. You'd be pretty excited right? Well, in case you didn't know, you've already GOT a team working for you in this department, and not just for a day either. Most of the larger sponsors have full time graphics artists who spend their time cranking out banners, odd shaped ads, but perhaps most importantly of all - FULL PAGE ADS! If you've not checked out any full page ads yet, then click into your sponsor's promo tools section and scope what's on offer in that area - man, there's some beautiful artwork kicking around there - and FPAs work like you wouldn't believe...

Abusing full page ads for run and for profit!

More of then than not, although that FPA looks like it's made from one large graphic, it's often been chopped up into smaller slices, or it could be that it's a combination of web text and images. Either way, there's nothing to stop you opening that page up in your HTML editor, and playing around with it. That's right - PLAYING with it. Don't be afraid to mess with full page ads. I'll get onto adding in your own text in a second, but for now, remember that there's no golden rule that says you can't take out graphics, add in other graphics, or alter ANY part of that page that you like. It's YOUR tool - and it's there for YOU to use as you will. Can you make it BETTER? Then go for it!

A SECRET that will make you a lot of $$

I guess that traditionally, full page ads were designed to be slapped in between to pages that the surfer would have to visit if he was to get to the content. A good example would be if one was placed between the index and main page, for example. But broaden your thoughts beyond this. Let's get these pages listed in the search engines! Remember what I said about altering the full page ads? Well, with very little effort, you can add in a title, some meta tags, and then even some body text (which might require some hacking and slashing of the HTML to get in there). Remember, this is just a webpage - you can edit it and add in anything you darn well want to, and body text is no exception. Many webmasters make a lot of $$ from FPAs listed in the search engines.

Whether you submit these pages or link to them from a page that's already listed (or get your page CRAWLED to in some other way) is totally up to you. Either way will be effective. Submit or be crawled - the choice is yours!

Adding in thumbs...

If you feel like you want to work this full page ad up into a mini site, then there's nothing to stop you doing that either. I've done this before, and it looked great. I just added in a row of thumbs, and some juicy body text, and hey-presto - I had a mini site to add to the search engines. FPAs vary from sponsor to sponsor and from designer to designer, but you might find that you can take out some unnecessary blurb from the left or the right of the page and add in some thumbs there. Or, you might prefer the 'no pics content' approach. Don't forget that if you're going for the search engines that are non human reviewed, there's nothing saying you HAVE to add in any pictures at all...

Speed - streamlining FPAs by editing them and through CHOICE!

Some of the best FPAs I've seen around are a 50 / 50 blend of graphics, and text (some of which links to the sponsor at key points). The reason these are so effective is that they give the surfer something to read while the graphics are loading up, AND the whole page takes less time to load. As we've discussed before, surfers are an impatient bunch, and they like to get somewhere FAST. If you have a choice between a bunch of FPAs, then pick the ones with less text over the ones that are 100% graphics every time. The others will work, but don't forget about speed considerations. Getting your message across to Joe Surfer as fast as you can (even on his 28.8k modem) is really important...

You've got a lot to do...

If ya check out any of the big sponsors out there, you'll find a lot of niches, a lot of FPAs, and a lot of very nice pages to optimize, hack up, and upload to your webspace. By the time you get that done, you'll probably have found some other cool sponsors, or they'll have released a fresh batch of full page ads for you to use too. And who says you can only optimize one full page ad for one keyphrase? From one full page ad, and it's set of graphics, you could make many pages - with pic content or not (depending on your style of working) - and each of these pages could build up traffic and sales. Full page ads a such an important tool - USE 'em to your advantage!
