Not giving the surfer TOO easy a ride...

An adult webmaster resource...

Written by Tom from Tom's Newbie Booster

We're gonna look at some ways to keep the surfer on his toes, to make him notice our sponsors MORE, and to save ourselves money that we have to pay in bandwidth (pictures that the surfer downloads which cost US in hosting fees!) If you're new to site building, then it's important to remember that a free site is not there to entertain the surfer - it's there to make YOU money. The only reason you have content on your site is to tease the surfer, and to allow you to list your site in directories, and link lists and so forth - places where pic content is a requirement for their surfers. Above all else - your site is there to make YOU money.

Use layouts that show ads, not content.

First of all, let's think about the way your adult site is laid out. If you're new to making sites - laying out a website is probably going to make you pull the best part of your darn hair OUT! It's kinda like trying to draw something but not knowing what to draw - you've got this blank canvas in front of you and it's driving ya crazy. Well, all I want you to think about for now is that there are thousands and thousands of adult websites out there at the moment, and it's gonna pay off big-time if you can make your pages STAND OUT, and look a little different. Keep surfing the competition's sites and making notes on ones you find that just have something special going for them.

Hide the enter link.

OK, now this probably sounds WEIRD if you're new to this business and you're probably thinkin' "Tom, you've gone MAD buddy!" But again, we're not here to entertain that surfer. The goal with a free site, the ultimate aim if you like, is to get him or her to a sponsor from the very first page of your site. It's THEN that they become a cash-paying customer and you start to build up money at your sponsors. Wahoo! So try to remember that if you can get that surfer to a sponsor (reasonably willingly - without putting a gun to their darn head!) from the first page, then you've done really well. The deeper Joe Surfer eats into your site - the more of a problem he becomes... Don't make the ENTER link too big and try to make it a GRAPHIC...

Use exits, blurs, and FPAs wherever you can.

Again, if you're new to all of this then you might have read that line and thought, "what the f**K?!?!" Don't worry, you'll be learning more about blurs, exits, and Full Page Ads as you go on. Ya can't escape them - trust me on that one! An exit console (pops up when the surfer leaves), a blur console (pops up when the surfer enters your site) and a full page ad (a 100% ad page between your first and second page) are all proven methods to greatly increase your adult revenue. USE them wherever you can - and it's surprising where you CAN use them. Read the rules fully wherever you're going to submit your site and make sure that if they DON'T say "No consoles" then you USE one. These babies are worth their weight in gold and you can NEVER have too many ads on a site.

Java, Flash and other page elements.

I'm seeing some great things happening with a lot of adult pages lately. I'm seeing webmasters using rollover effects, magic glowing text, and some darn kinky flashing ads too - it's GREAT! I even saw a java applet yesterday that made a picture move around in a movie window - no idea how in tarnation they did it but it was ultra cool. The important thing to remember here is that, as I said earlier on,those surfers have been whacking it to a thousand and one sites so if you can make your ads look special, make them jump out at that surfer's ass, or show your sponsors in a NEW way, then baby - you're gonna make some serious green here!!! Make it your job to find out all about Javascript, Flash and all the web's other weird and wonderful tools - you can use 'em ALL to make more $$.

Blind links on SE pages...

Now, remember what I said there about using as many ads as you can? Cool! Well there are actually places out there on the web that you can submit your work to that won't send a human out to look at it. Sounds kinda crazy, I know, but it's true! This pretty much gives you license to fill those pages with all the HUGE, dirty tricks and text links that you please. Again, you can put LOADS of ads on there and it's important not to have too few. An example is that I like to have a link at the base of most of my search engine only sites that says something like, "NEXT" or "ENTER" and this will go to a sponsor. The theory is that they've missed or ignored (ARG!) all of my earlier 'real' ads - so I'm gonna blind link them. If that don't work - they face my BLUR and exit consoles! hehehe.

So, there's a few early ideas on not giving the surfer a totally easy ride. You'll read some places that the surfer is the ENEMY! But that's not entirely true. He or she will become a cash paying customer if you treat them right, but they can also cost you a lot in bandwidth if ya don't. ))

Hope this helps and let me know if you've got any questions or comments on this post or any of 'em...
