Mining for a niche Paysite / AVS site...

I want to expand a little on a post I made yesterday about finding new areas to create adult projects such as paysites and AVS sites in. The success or failure of such a site could be decided at the outset - when the webmaster is picking the niche to work in. If they pick one that's already saturated and covered well, they'll have competition from the word GO, and their surfers (however many there might be) will be spoilt for choice on where they can sign-up for that content. Always try to find a NEW angle or even a fresh niche that has yet to be covered. There's still a lot of them around although they take a lot of hard work to uncover and build up.

Finding that niche!

I found that a good place to get ideas was actually at a content provider, who supplies content in a variety of different niches. One of the most useful pages that I found was this one - http://www.web-legal.com/xtitles/ (No affiliation whatsoever) ... as you can see, there's a LOT of niches listed there and if you click on one of those headings, you can drill down, view samples, and even get ideas for more focused niches. I'll come back to content in a little while but the first thing you need to do is get a spark of an idea for a site...

With so many surfers out there on the web, there's good traffic in even the most focused of niches which would make it worth your while building a site for them. Try combining niches to come up with new angles such as 'stocking lesbians' - then ask yourself who would be into this niche? Would you be able to sell it to a group of surfers that are already out there? Has it been DONE?

Has it got a shot?

Alright, so you've got a crazy idea for a new niche AVS or Paysite - a tiny glimmer of a site that might just make you some serious money. But be brutally honest at this stage. We need to know if your 'hairy smoking lesbian midget' site has a chance here! The next step is to go to a place where you can see what surfers are searching for and 'test' your concept to find if there's been any interest in it. For this, Goto / Overture is a very handy tool:

http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

And while we get:

No suggestions for hairy smoking lesbian midget.

... don't let that discourage you. Again, you can use this tool to get ideas and inspiration for niches that might just work out. Widen your search a little. Think along the same theme - try each of the words separately. Look what I've found already...

129 midget lesbian
109 lesbian midget

Now, obviously I'm using a silly example here, but this is a very powerful tool that will give you a good 'idea' if nothing else,on a fresh direction for a membership-based site.

Back to content???

Of course! We've come BACK to where we started! It's a shame I can't draw arrows on this board because there'd be a fat one going back up to the content page I mentioned first. Once you've got a new or refined idea for your site, back-track and check all of your content sites to see if you actually can get pics and movies for this site. If there's not a great quantity - that's not such a bad thing! This could be a fresh niche that's not being catered for yet, and even though getting content might be tough, you'll have a product that will be unique (until it's copied).

If there's absolutely NO content whatsoever and you can't shoot your own, or get someone to shoot it for you, you may have to resign to the fact that your super-focused, never-before-seen niche Paysite might never see the light of day. Be honest with yourself at each step of the birth of your Paysite.

Maybe a final step - picking the domain name!

Wahoo! You've found a 'new' niche. Some surfers are searching for it, or there are a group of related surfers who you might just be able to pitch it to. You've got a *hot* idea and you can't wait to get it out there. There's a LONG process ahead of getting the site up and running and working on the tour and all the other things. But first, you need to pick that domain name.

I've written a lot of posts about choosing domain names so I'll not go back over those here today. All I'll say is to spend time choosing that domain name. Trust me - you're gonna have to live with that domain and consequent site title for a very long time! Make sure you pick something intriguing, something exciting, something that will attract the surfers and say something about the site from the moment the surfers read the name. Forget about keywords in the name - this is a Paysite! The domain name should be a part of the marketing of the site...

Buy up the .net .org and maybe the .co.uk versions as well as the .com. There's nothing more annoying that when you have a site and some idiot buys the other variations either to piss you off, extort money from you once it's successful, or to set up a similar site. Cover your back even at this early stage...

Good luck and have fun coming up with some fresh ideas!
