Index Page part 2

In free site school this week I'm building a site from the base upwards, going over some important points on getting this thing working the way it should, and trying to give out as many pointers as I can on free site building. Yesterday, we looked at some important basics of choosing a niche, some keyphrases, and getting the site underway. Today, we're going to try and complete the index page and look at more ads, the search engine structure, and the legal information which needs to be in place.

So here's where we got to yesterday:

And here's that page with all of it's ads on there:

The warning...

You'll see that the warning text is one of the new additions since yesterday. The warning text is often something that's mis-understood on free sites. The common mistake is to let the warning text DOMINATE this first page. But you've got to remember that it doesn't make you any money - AND it's not guaranteed to keep you out of trouble legally either. It's just something that MIGHT help make it look like you were doing your best to keep out younger eyes. So:

Don't let the warning text take over this first page.
Remember that it's not a magic answer to staying legal.

Title 18 / USC text...

For each bit of content you buy, you will receive an important block of text (usually in it's own text file on the CD somewhere). This is the title 18 USC text, which needs to go on the very first page, or on a page linked from it. (It must be easy to find). With free content - you still have to use it, and the best you can do is to list your free content provider's website (the sponsor in many cases) UNDER the USC text. Check out the very base of my index page part 2 and you'll see the USC text. Don't get lazy and forget about this - it's important.

This is the sex business and it's important to make yourself as hard a target as you possibly can to anyone that would wish to prosecute you. The more you are doing to show that you are a legal business, the better.

More on adverts...

Making ads up for your site is very difficult. It's one of the parts that I always find a real strain. Doubts start creeping into your mind like, "will this work?" - "are these ads good enough?" - "will the surfer even notice them?" - and this is all good. If it's difficult, it means you're really thinking about ways to grab old Joe Surfer by the nuts and make him take notice. Anyone can slap banners around a site - but that's just never gonna make you any real money. Making your own ads from text links and odd-shaped graphics is the only way to go.

The thumbs trick...

If you look around 2 thirds of the way down my page, you'll see that I've included 3 rather large, sexy thumbs of lesbian girls getting it on. You'll see this on many sites out there, and I think it's a great way to get those surfers interested in what you're saying. A picture really DOES paint a thousand words, and remember that the surfers are conditioned to take notice of thumbs - that usually means a free lunch is coming up for them! Use thumbnails to show the surfer what they'll get on the sponsor's site. Yeah, it's a sneaky trick - and one that has to be used in the right way, but it's also a good tool to get them off to a sponsor and something you can do quickly.

Use the sponsor's free content for this!

Playing games with the ENTER link...

Don't get dragged into the trap of having a plain, boring, EASY-TO-FIND enter link in the middle of the page. Surfers will just skim right past your ads and ENTER the site. Here's some tips on the ENTER link:

Put an ad where the enter link WOULD normally go.
Use a graphic enter link so it loads slower.
Make some sponsor links have the word "ENTER" in them.
Put sponsor links NEXT to, or around the enter link.
Call it something other than ENTER.

NOTE: Remember that not ALL advertising tricks will go down well with the link lists. Even the page that I've made there (which, trust me, is pretty CLEAN!) would not get listed on many of the link lists out there. Read the rules, and decide how you make your sites, and where you want to get them listed. How dirty this thing gets is purely up to you!

Search engine fun...

So we come to trying to get this site some traffic. While I'd be going for some link list traffic with this site, or a version of it, I'd also be concentrating a hell of a lot on the search engines. I mentioned yesterday that I'd chosen "lesbian love" as my main keyphrase. Well, I went back into Overture - http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ - and I typed my phrase, and I found some great variations and other keywords and phrases that I could also target:

lesbian love story
lesbian love making
lesbian love scene
lesbian love pic

Now, if I'm going to work in "lesbian love" - then it shouldn't be too hard to also work in the other words so that my site can be found under all of the phrases above AND some more from the list at overture.

I start with the title, and craft in all the main words I need there:

<TITLE>Lesbian love - pics and scenes of girls kissing and making love.</TITLE>

The title is SO important - always work hard on the title. It's the KING of your page when it comes to SE traffic.

Next, I have to work up the keywords and description tags...

<META name="description" CONTENT="Free galleries of lesbian love. Pictures and scenes of real lesbian love. Links to movies and some story content.">

<META name="keywords" CONTENT="free galleries, lesbian love, pictures, scenes, lesbian lovers, links, movies, lesbian story">

Less important - but still worth spending time on. I've simply built upon what I established in the title tag.

And finally, there's the body text. The first part being the most important:

Lesbian Love <- as an H1 tag - very important!!!

Pics and scenes of girls
kissing and making love.
<- as the first but of text under it.

And here it all is in action:

Tomorrow we're going to move to the next page, and a very important one as far as sales go - the FULL PAGE AD.
