Finding new link lists and TGPs to submit to

An adult webmaster resource...

Written by Tom from Tom's Newbie Booster

Whether you're using an auto-submitter, or submitting your sites by hand to the link lists, it becomes important to build up a selection of submit pages that will bring in the traffic. If you're working with something other than "18teen" or "hardcore sex", then chances are that your site will be listed in one of the niche categories on that link list, and will receive less traffic (but more focused traffic). You'll need to submit to a good number of link lists to get that traffic flowing in. If link lists are going to be a way for you to get traffic, finding new and reliable places to add your site is going to be an important part of your work...

How to find a STACK of link lists...

This is a rather complex process, but well worth the effort. What you need is a starting point such as http://www.trafficmatrix.com/linklists.html. From there, you can start to follow links to other link lists. Now, one of the main ways that link lists generate their traffic is through traffic trades with other link lists - they link from their main page to other link lists' main pages. This is great for us, because we can follow those links, and then find ourselves a fresh batch of places to submit our sites. And, of course, every link list that you visit will probably have a table of "GREAT LINKS" which will take you to even more...

Easy tiger! It's not all roses...

There's some things that we need to consider here:

Ethics - you probably won't want to submit your site to every link list out there. Some of them might contain material that makes you take a step back. Decide where you want to have your site listed, and forget the rest!

404's - if you're finding link lists from any of the webmaster resources out there, you'll soon find that many of the traffic sources listed there have now gone bye-bye. This is because there's a very high turn over of smaller link lists. People get sick of running them and the page usually redirects you somewhere else.

Will they EVER see you? - if this link list has a lot of blind links, pop-ups, and other trickery before the surfer gets to the list of sites (including yours) then ask yourself if you're likely to get much traffic here. I've seen some lists that seemed to want to hide the webmaster's sites out of the way - EEK!

Rules - Check out the rules page - all link lists will have them. Do they sound fair? Does it sound like you've got a chance of getting one of your sites listed? Are there any rules that make you think, "that's just CRAZY!"? Check out the rules page very carefully - you'll get enough rejections as it is without submitting to a 'super-strict' link list.

There are other considerations at this stage, but the main point that I'm making here is don't just go grab the ADD URL page - check out the link list. Start at the index page, and do your investigating and looking around before you think about submitting there. This has to work for YOU!

Putting them on trial...

So you've found a new link list, it looks professional, and it looks like somewhere that could send you a modest amount of traffic. Time to test that sucker out! First off, add it to your list of sites, your bookmarks, a bit of paper or ANYWHERE that you'll be able to find it easily again. You might even want to keep some sort of spreadsheet here. The main thing is that you keep track of link lists that you are testing out and don't forget to keep track of the ones you've already tested - we don't want to submit to the same 'bad' one twice. Check the rules carefully, submit your site

The TEST begins!

Yup - finding a link list is only the beginning of the process of building up good link list traffic. From this point, you've got two main concerns:

Did you get listed? - Don't be too dejected if you didn't get in. FACT: no matter how good your site is, how clean, or how closely you followed the rules, SOME places just won't list you. Every single webmaster that ever lived has had rejection emails, or just no listing at all for sites that were perfectly OK. It's a part of submitting to the link lists and, as frustrating as it can be, it's 'normal'.

Did you get TRAFFIC? - The BIG question - and the whole point of this rather tricky exercise. Unless you're using an auto-submitter, submitting to link lists takes time. The last thing you want to be doing is adding recip links and submitting to a link list that just isn't sending you any surfers at all. This could be because they've not built up their traffic yet, or it could be that your link is on sub-category 265 on page 978 - it happens. WATCH your stats very carefully. You'll soon find the good traffic senders!

Building link list traffic is an on-going process. Link lists come and go, as we've talked about here, and there's always fresh ones springing up that can send you decent traffic. Good luck in finding link lists that you can work with!
