Finding Great Domain Names Part 2

Batch Domain Checking And Some Other Handy Features in DNA

Written by Tom from Tom's Newbie Booster

In PART 1 of this tutorial, I talked about how to dig out large numbers of possible domain names to register using the freeware tool, Domain Name Analyzer. This process is based largely on the two sets of words you build up in the software's domain construction window. I'm still adding to mine from month to month and every time I add more words, I run a check on keywords like "amateur" and "milf" and get the software to create and check the new names that have been built.

It's a handy tool because it stops you having to wrack your brain and come up with new names.

So once you've created a lot of funky names, the next logical step is to CHECK them and see if any of them are available. DNA can check a lot of names with a few clicks of the mouse - which saves you going off and checking through thousands of domain names which in reality would be impossible to do. Sometimes you can even find a domain name with some type-in traffic potential.

Taking up from where I left of yesterday - fire up the DNA software and generate some names, so that there's a list of them on screen. You may want to add to your list of possible words in the left and right boxes before you do this (if you haven't done so already) so that the software is generating a good list of names to work from. Make sure there's at least 20 names on screen.

Now we need to get more familiar with the DNA software screen:

009

There are three very important columns here.

The first is a little box next to each domain name. By clicking this box you select the domain name to the right of it. Don't click any of these for now. It's unlikely that you'll ever need to individually click the box to the left of each name but I'll come back to this in a minute.

The second column in from the left contains the domain names.

The third column is called 'Status' this is the column which will tell us whether each domain name is already registered, or if it's available to buy.

Now click on this button at the very top of the page:

010

This is the 'Select All' button and when you click it you'll see that all of the domain names are now ticked. That means that anything we do from this point will be done to all of the domain names there.

Now click on this icon:

011

This icon is the icon which will check each domain name to see if it's available to register. The status changes from 'Unknown' to 'Checking' and then to either 'Taken' or 'Available'. If you see Available in there, it means that nobody has registered this domain name and it's yours for the taking!

And that's about all there is to checking a lot of domain names at once.

Handy features in DNA

Now let's look at some other extras that will likely come in handy as you're using this software.

Register domain name button

At the top of the screen, there's a button which says "Buy Domain". This is just a button which will launch your browser and open up your domain name registrar. You can choose which domain name registrar goes in here the first time you press the button. It's handy and can save a few seconds here and there.

Saving mined domain names

You don't always have to buy every available name and it's often handy to SAVE the searches you have done. This is done with the regular File -> Save as route. Projects can be opened at a later date and added to. Or you can come back when you really want to buy that amateur name, or whatever it was. Save the searches as something descriptive like "milf search 1".

Exporting

One of the most handy extras is the ability to copy the domain names you have selected. If you go to the Edit menu at the top of the page you can then click on Copy ALL or Copy Selected. This then copies the domain names to the computer's memory, and then you can press CTRL + V in notepad or anything else and have them pasted in there.

Arranging domains by available

Once you get into generating 50+ domain names at a time, it can get pretty confusing to have to scroll down through them to find the available ones. Well let the WHOIS searches run a while and then click on 'Status' right at the top of column three. This will sort all of the names and put the available ones at the top.

And that's about all there is to DNA.

Happy domain hunting!
