Only mainstream I do is my own with coins and I do really well selling a "How to Win at Blackjack" book that I published for a musician friend. I use his method of playing and have NEVER lost in the Casino. Have played in LV, Reno, Tahoe, Bahamas and others and always leave a winner. I could make a good living doing it full time but it is real boring.

Really nice here today. 59.2F here right now and gonna be higher tomorrow. Think I and my friend will go to the driving range and hit some balls tomorrow.

i agree with everything ritto said, particularly: pick a niche you like...something that you know about (the kinkier the better). personalize your site, make it have a distinct and original look that's different than any other porn site on the net. pre-selling the surfer is just a simple matter of talking to the surfer or doing SOMETHING that not only wants to make him or her "click" but pull out their credit card. there's so much free porm out there, these days, you have to do something different, that's out of the box in content and design that turns them upside down and shakes the money out of their pockets.

Thanks for your valuble input you are so right, I have designed a few sites before but nothing adult in nature I am activly working on the site I was intending to do a bit of this and that to see how it goes but you clearly advise against that taking what the PP said into account also it has no soul does not make me want to pop me pants down.

I am into creampie my self lesbians and a few other things if you think I should do what I get horny about and describe things in my own words giving the site some character then that sounds good to me.

I used FHG's as they where importable content I could add to a search easily, learning MySQL / PHP just about cracked HTML CSS

The first thing that stands out is a lot of writing that I have no intention of trying to read. As a side note, when it comes to text, dont let the lines get too long. Its harder on the brain and eyes when you have to follow a long line of text across a page, and then find the beginning of the next line to continue reading. Its no coincidence that newspapers and magazines have narrow columns of text, its designed for ease of reading, legibility.

Back to your site. The next thing I did after ignoring the text was to scroll down. Many surfers wont even get that far. As far as they are concerned - "You've not grabbed my attention in the first 2 seconds so I'm off to click something else".

I did scroll, straight past the search box, didnt even notice it at first. I come to the list of niches / text links on the light grey background, glanced around for a second or two, look boring, got bored, gave up

I did actually scroll back up a bit and found the search box. My professional interest prompted me to enter a few keywords to see what would happen. It pulled up some links that then took me to fhg's (free hosted galleries). I can find these anywhere on the web, again nothing unique or slightly different to make me stop and think "I'll browse this site for a while".

I dont mean to sound harsh, but you must think like a surfer. You only have a few seconds to grab my attention, and the prime space on your website is in the first viewable screen (the top of the first page).

Is this site going to be aimed at a particular niche or target group? If its going to be a bit of this and a bit of that and everything all mixed together, I'd say forget it. I'd strongly advise anyone starting out today to specialise in something. Pick something you yourself like, small tits for example, and then aim on specialising even further, like small tits on redheads. If you aim on trying to please everyone you will fail. Or it will take so long to get anywhere that you'll just give up before you even get your first few exciting sales.

Find some paysites that you like and look for the 'webmasters' link, they are usually in very small writing somewhere near the bottom of the page. When you click the link it will usually take you to the company's page that run the website. You will now be able to sign up as an affiliate. Once signed up as a reseller / affiliate, you will have access to promotional content, free hosted gallery links, banners, and your own individual linking codes. Now you are ready to make money.

Now you need to build some pages to attract the surfers (potential customers) and entice them to click on your links (the ones you got from the affiliate area as described above).

Can you build pages / websites? If not then I'd suggest starting with a blog. There are plenty of free ones available but I'll let other people here recommend them as I'm not into blogging very much.

Basically you are going to build pages or websites or update your blog with content (text or pictures, or both) to attract as many surfers as you possibly can. And some of them will be tempted to click your links, and some of these will buy a membership to the paysites that you are promoting, and you will get paid

As soon as we know at what level of learning you are at then we can advise further. Please ask any questions, no matter how simple they might. Its the only way to learn.

Although its not 100% necessary, I'd strongly advise you invest in some hosting and a domain name. A domain name may cost about $15 a year, and hosting for as little as $10/month. As you can see you don't need to invest a lot of money to get you started. If you are tempted by anything that costs more than these figures, come back and ask here for advice. It would be a shame to see you get ripped off right at the start of your webmastering career.

Did you ever have something happen in your life that is TOTALLY unexplainable, weird and puzzling? This will be something I will never be able to understand ... ever.

Have you EVER (and I think we all have) had weird voices come over your computer speakers? You know, like a CB radio transmission, police call, someones cell phone chat, etc. I think we all have at one time or the other. Well, listen to this and tell me what happened ... and, HOW.

Yesterday I was sitting here doing some computer work. All of a sudden, in FRONT of me, from my computer speakers I heard: ring ring, (male voice) Hello. (female voice) This is Dr. Baynes office calling, can I talk to Jerry?

That's it ... FROM THE COMPUTER SPEAKERS.

15-20 seconds later my office phone goes: ring ring (I turn around and pick it up and say Hello) Female voice says: "This is Dr. Baynes office calling, can I talk to Jerry?"

EXACT WORDS I heard from the computer 15-20 seconds earlier.

I am still totally mystified on how that happened. Am I psychic, is Crazy Ernie messing with my mind, or?

Never ever had anything like this happen before and just cannot think of any explanation.

one of the cabinet safety switches failed and had full power inside

a similar thing happened to me, but with an am daytimer's old 500 watt collins (many MANY years ago). so many engineers had their hands in the thing, one of them, apparently, had bypassed the safety switches. sad thing about that evil device was that so many folks had tinkered with its insides over the years, very little of the original circuitry was left. the schematics, as a result, were totally worthless. i mean there were several components just hanging in mid-air by bare wires. what a mess!

i also remember a 5kw out in a cow pasture...that had a consistent 2 feet of water always on the floor of the little "shack" it was in. the very second i peeked inside the "shack" i could see the transmitter just arcing away! kind of like a light show of fireworks. i never even went inside and just called the owner to hire someone else to repair it.

ahhh...the good old days.

just rain, here, today...and a bit warmer...but winter isn't over yet.

Don't fire up that 5 mega watt tranny (oops).

As it is our lights blink on/off everytime you start with your cw friends.

3 watts ... you should only need a couple 9v batteries to fire that up then ... that's after you fire up all the tubes with a 220v direct feed from your power lines.

I remember once at WKNX-TV I was working on our transmitters. We had quad klystron tubes as finals. They were about 6' tall each. Opened the service cabinet doors and reached in and all my hair (didn't check my pubic hair ) stood on end and I could feel that fuzzy feeling all over that said, "Jerry, get the f*ck out of here quick." Turns out one of the cabinet safety switches failed and had full power inside. Whew! That gave me a little frieght that moment. I think I glowed in the dark for a few days after that.

For those that questioned power in the U.S. We, most places, have 220v feed from the power poles to our service breaker box. It is then split to a '120v-gnd-120v' feed to the box with 120v breakers on both sides. Those breakers feed wall plugs, lights, computers, etc. In many instances both sides are fed together to feed 220v to clothes dryers, air conditioner, arc welders (if you have one in your garage or tool shed. Basically simple - but lot's of wires and not for the inexperienced to mess with in guessing. You can really screw some things up if you try to wire yourself and don't really know how to do it.

Expecting 3-7" of snow today here in Michigan and wouldn't you know it I've got lots of running and appointments to go to today and tomorrow. Oh well, such is life.

AND - for example, i recently won an old "voice of america" five million watt transmitter on ebay. once i buy a house for it, i plan on removing the finals and making it a 3 watt qrp cw rig. i'm certain it will still blackout the entire southeastern u.s. upon "power up."

You'll find lots of help here. My suggestion is to get a good domain to start with. Then, ask here for recommendations of sponsors to use that seem to convert in the Amateur Cams type of site you are thinking about making. Most of the sponsors will have free content including LIVE cams where surfers to your site can sign up to and then ... you make some money. It can be integrated into a personal blog or homepage for your friends but the money part will mostly come from the random porn surfer that clicks on an interesting link on your page.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. We were all there at one time and went through the same starting process.

Yup ... it is starting to warm up a little. Most days here in Michigan are set around 35-37F for the next 7-10 days. Sure about time. The snow hasn't been as bad as back in the 50's but it has been bad enough. Think the worst we had was about 12-15" at one time ... but it just seems to never go away having the ground covered continuously. I totally think it is my imagination (or Crazy Ernie stepping up to the plate) but I swear this AM at around 3:30 I heard a couple geese honking. It is very early for geese as it is usually around the 10th of March before the flocks start heading overhead back north for nesting.

I think we ALL are waiting for the to bring back some warm days, grass, flowers and a fresh spring smell in the air. We deserve it.

Gotta go pick up my taxes at the CPA today. Get that over with for another year. I hate having to rake through all the info to give to him. Thanks to excell for helping a little. Spend an hour or so each month entering payouts/income, print it out, box up the receipts for verification and let them do the work.

Other than that ... back to monotony.

the television "forecasters" missed the boat on our end of the country. the system moved in MUCH faster and seems to be a lot nastier. didn't really expect anything but a light snowfall later in the day. at 5:30 am, however, visibility was about 30 percent with snow heavily falling and the road trashed (slush covered snow). right now its about 3 inches and counting with temps falling. its nice to work at home!

I have another mainstream site trying to market everything from Motorcycle gear to electronics, etc etc. It does not do very well at all I did a couple months ago get a $385 check from Forex ... someone must have dumped a huge bunch of trade money into the pot. Today I installed my third zen cart shopping system, tied in with credit card processing via paypal. I only mention it as the first one I did a month before new year was a bit of a learning curve, not as simple as I would have liked. But now, relatively easy

Needless to say I'm struggling with getting traffic to my mainstream sites. Its not quite the same as with adult sites. I'm hoping that my past experience of working in adult micro niches, notoriously difficult to get any initial traffic flow, will help in my mainstream traffic generation. But its still tough, mainstream is so different in traffic levels.

Yuk, got over a foot of snow in our driveway. Have about 120' straight driveway and another 120' circle drive at home here. Lots of snowblowing today. Wow, do I hate it.

My golfing partner flew out of Saginaw yesterday for Alabama to visit relatives and to golf. Sure wished I had went with him. Gonna call him in a couple hours and tell him how lucky he was to miss this one. I might have to go over to his house and help his wife Carrie get the mess cleared out. Snow should be over sometime around noon here.

HELPFUL HINT:

2-3 days ago I made some sponsor changes to my mail hub gallery SSI call like I've done 1000's of times in the last 10-15 years. What I forgot to do was go online and do a live check of the page.

Noticed in the last couple days my sponsor hits declined to near "0" and couldn't figure out why. My phonesex callins were fine (cause I've got dozens of phonesex domains that don't use this SSI call).

Well, found out that I made a fatal HTML syntax error in updating the SSI page and whereever I had that SSI call it was coming up an error. The SSI call was not viewable on the web at all. Just showed an error, page not available.

Spent about an hour this AM viewing the source code of the page and finally found the error and corrected it.

So ... if you ever make some additions and/or deletions to a webpage ... DO NOT FORGET to use your browser and go online and check the page.

And, I cannot blame this on Crazy Ernie. I made the stupid mistake.

Got an email from Tom and he banned the 'hotnobrainer' guy from posting. What a dork that guy was.

Was really glad to hear from Tom and that he is ok. I did not ask him why he hasn't posted lately ... I figured it was non of my business to question him.

I hate computer problems .. .. been battling a problem all morning but think I got it back to normal. All of a sudden Norton quit on me and the task bar icon disappeared. Couldn't get it fired up at all. After 4 complete boots with 'error fix' turned on in Windows finally got it back to normal. No idea on why it *ucked up

there are several reasons for the drop in sales, i think. yes, there is way to much free stuff out there. yes, they are showing way too much pink. also things really began to change when instead of having just 1 to 4 GOOD quality sites, sponsors decided it was best best to somehow have 20-40 plus sites in their arsenal (apparently, just to say: we're bigger and better than the other guy").

as far as the speed of the board, we seem to have become our own little community. we also don't tolerate any b.s. and as a result (thank goodness), no flame wars or overall stupid posts. ...and ...sadly, yes, we have lost some active members due to various circumstances.

the good news is: when we need help with something, we come here! its really nice to have a safe place where you know and trust each other. i'm sure once ponfar gets settled in to his new surroundings, we'll see more of him.

many of us have gone over to the mainstream side. i like it because of the creativity aspect. i kind of got burned out on porn (after so many - MANY - years), however, i am trying to build that stream back up - slowly.

Amazing how active this board was when I joined in about 1999. It seems that porn overall is dying a slow death with all the free stuff out there. I remember the day in about 2000 when I was averaging 25-30 $35 signups a day with Cybererotica and thought there was no end in sight. I know there are new surfers every day coming aboard ... but, they sure are not doing the signup thingy like they used to.

And, I cannot understand how these tube sights make any money giving pink away free. Just blows my mind. We used to get scolded by the community back in the early days if we even showed a flash of pink. That was a true no-no. i remember when we actually had radio studios to broadcast "live" musicians. at one AMer (no FM in those days), we even had a grand piano in a studio. now, THAT required musical talent for the artists. no hi-tech recording software, just a tube rca broadcast console (that was troublesome on warm up) and some ribbon mikes.

By the way our first one uses SQL but I'm not that fond of it. Got a monstrous string to type into Putty to do a database backup, etc. Plus, the already mentioned it does not index a whole site. I talked our server people to do a daily SQL backup of that engine plus all our other sites incase of server crash. Had a server crash about 4-5 years ago and lost everything. Had to start all over including installing the original search engine. It's not for the novice I'll tell ya. My son and I have about 100+ domains between us. Was lots of work.

Yup.....10 years ago my son and I bought a search engine script installed on our dedicated server at the cost of around $2,000. It has a lot of features....but, now we see the shortcomings in it. It is here: http://www.247pornsearch.com

Got the XAV one 3-4 years ago when it was free (they now charge $40 for it) and it is much better than our earlier one. I've got close to 10,000 pages in mine and it runs smooth as silk. Really like it. It indexes whole sites, including subfolders, etc.

THAT looks like it could be a new niche for ritto!

This is most certainly a database-site of some sort combined with some mod-rewrite to make search engine friendly URLs.

In short:

Some special commands in .htaccess internally "translate" the URL www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 into something like www.bbc.co.uk/index.php?site=radio&program=1&what=start (just an example).

There's probably another way to achieve what you would like to do, for example telling the webserver to parse ALL URLs as if they were .html or .php pages. However, this may cause some security problems as well as some performance issues.

The big question is: Why would you want to omit the .html-ending anyway?

Finally got the new phonesex site basically finished. Maybe a few small modifications and a few more fetish pages to add. Took about 2 weeks at 4-5 hours a day to finish. Lots of individual text had to go on each page. Whew! What a job. Now to relax for a while.

I been real busy. Was disconnected from the net for a while while moving.

The mill I was working in in Louisiana shut down permanently. A lot of friends lost their jobs.

But miraculously my employer had an opening in Panama City Alaska, Oops, I mean Florida. (Can't tell the difference by temperature lately)

So I'm back. Writing from near the sunny (but frigid) white sandy beaches of beautiful Panama City FL. Seriously my new job is right on the bay. I can SEE white sandy beaches from the window of one of the equipment rooms I work in. And yachts docked in front of high dollar houses across the bay.

i'll admit, our place is really odd looking...and elise gets on to me ALL the time about the equipment, wires strung everywhere (inside and out), antennas, old (and new) electronic gear. between the broadcast recording studio and music area, there's the ham area and separate computer area (office). its quite a disaster to look at to the naked eye, although i do TRY to keep it "kind of neat" in appearance.

my goal is to - one day - haul in one of those old million watter "voice of america" transmitters (that will take up the entire living room and more), knock the power down to about 3 watts, tune it the ham bands and hook a code key up to it.

i'd do it just for the shock value to elise. of course, i'd end up living with you and crazy ernie after that stunt!

Ohhhhh. 5U4's, 6SN7's cooking and warming the house. Good ole days. In the early days of my TV shop back in the late 60's early 70's we had to order tubes 1000+ at a crack every couple weeks. 6GH8's 200 at a time. Wow!

My son Kc8amh in ham (does all voice) has rigs now that cost over $8000 each. He's got more scopes, scanners, inputs, outputs, putputs, in his ham room. Big 60-70 foot fully rotatable (up, down, sideways) antenna and 5-10 wires stretching from his house to the trees, garage, and poles.

I think it looks something like your place karla?

His new son Tommy (my grandson) born in September will get a good dose of ham radio as he grows up.

The "cats eye". Whew, forgot them. Had em on 2 radios in the old days, a Philco and a Setchel Carlson (sp).

there's nothing like the nice warm glow of tubes, particularly in the dark. i have a few homebrew ham transmitters that use tubes, as well as a few boat anchors. in the good old "music" days, there was nothing like a great tube amp on the hi-fi! when i was young i used to SWL with an old tube hallicrafters.

by the way, since you're a ham, you'll love this: for the s&g's (sh*ts and giggles) i was monitoring a VHF ham simplex freq and the conditions were so great, i even (ack) picked up the mike and talked to an op 75 miles away, full scale. it must have been the cold weather. not bad for vhf. conditions are really nice on HF, too. problem is the morse code freezes before it gets to the end of the antenna and crashes to the pavement below.

Me too! I got 2 old tube radios
One I got from my mom, she picked it up from a flea market.
I sanded the wooden case, and gave it a new finish. Cleaned up the metal logo and the front and it looks great. And, it sounds great as well... I don't use it as much as it deserves, but nothing beats the sound of a tube amp when you listen to AM.

The other tube radio belonged to my granny. I still remember listening to it when I was just a little boy in the early 60's Tuning in on the radio stations using the "cats eye"...
When my granny died I said that i'd really liked to have that radio since nobody wanted it. One of my uncles said "I got a more modern radio for you Peter , if you need one".

well, we're old, jerryb, and have collected lots of stuff that is VERY important to us. stuff that a lot of people would not even know what or "why" it is! i even have a bunch of my old slip-sticks (slide rules).

and don't me started about some of the "boat anchors" in my ham "shack" - fortunately i can still find tubes for them. i love tubes!

plus being older gives us the advantage of knowing how good (or bad) things were "in the old days" compared to today...which from a cultural/anthropoligical (is that a word?) aspect is quite amazing.

plus...i'm just happy to have another day on THIS side of the grass.

i have two videotape machines and use one to record shows we want to watch while we're watching something else. i have a wide variety of 35mm cameras and always carry one of my nikon's with me. i still love film!

we don't have cellphones...AND and we don't even have long distance on the landline. i still use morse code and i still listen to REAL music on a turntable.

And technology keeps going. Now, indeed - how many of you have used a videotape player, 35mm film photocamera, or 3,5" diskette in last year? Or payphone on the street for that matter? And how many have a landline phone at home? Ok, im an exception - i have a landline and no mobile (for more than a year already!). So recently i had to call a person, and went into bus station, yeah they have payphone, but you throw in your coins in, and then it uses Skype to make a call...

My PCs HDD has grown from 10GB in 2000 to 1 Terabyte, and it doesnt feel like to much. I could go on and on
So, where will we be in next 10 years?

New Years Party stand up comedy routine went well. I had em rollin' on the floor with my part about Crazy Ernie being born a twin to his black brother Leroy. Not only born a twin - but a siamese twin. And, not connected at the chest or head - but, connected by the wanker. They liked the part about when we were kids on halloween we used to hide up in a tree. As trick or treaters would approach CE would hang on to the limbs and Leroy would jump down and scare the kids and then bounce right back up in the tree like a bungee jumper. (Put that pic in your mind. )

Working on a jungle monkey routine where CE is the monkey. Been working on that one for about a month now. It's hard to come up with monkey humor and jungle humor but I'm getting there.

I stay away from political, religion type stuff. Depending on the crowd I do skim (lightly) on racial issues - especially with my twin Leroy being in the picture.

I really got to get a CD done this year. Been putting it off for a while. Am trying to put together a laugh track CD that is continuous laughter to que at the right time. Or, in my senior moment, may take some recording equipment along on one of the shows and record live.

Anyway, enough rambling ... let's all have a good year.

i second that! remember those "good ol' radio daze?" i'm surprised we didn't kill ourselves or others back then. quite scary, indeed.

Doing a standup tonight for a bunch of drunks so got to get all my nasty naughty jokes and stories ready. Sometimes on stage you can totally forget where you are in the dialog you want to present because of audience distractions/hecklers, etc. Especially when they are drunk. I use an ear clicker and small hand held remote to cue me on if I get lost. Many commedians do the same. Just look for a small mini ear plug. They do have a shoe remote now where you can just tap or push on your foot to get the next lead in joke. I don't have to use it very much as I am very comfortable on the stage but I do keep it handy just in case.

Might even have a couple VO/soda's tonight...will probably get me plastered. My black golfing partner is going with me and he is a 1 beer man so I do have a driver.

Anyway ... y'all have a good night and see you sometime next year.

First, my idea of what rss feed links was totally wrong. I thought you, as a surfer, MUST have a reader to read the links. Dumb me?

So, I thought I HAD to have a reader to view the rss links. Dumb me again?

After adding some rss links from affiliate programs to my site I do find an unusual problem.

When I view the site in a stand alone IE browser and click on the link ... it works fine and I see the pictures and content.

But, when I use my AOL IE browser and go to a site with a rss link all I see is stuff like this:

I don't see the pictures and/or text information content of the website.

Anyone else here use AOL seen that problem? I have XP Home, Service Pack 2, AOL 9.5

I wish I could ween myself from AOL but my email from there is tied to 100's if not 1000's of proggies, registrars, suppliers, etc that it would be a monster of a job cutting it loose. The amount of changes I would have to go through would be horrible. Been using them for 20+ years.

Weird problem I'm running into is on my standalone IE it shows the pages correctly most of the time.

In AOL which I use a lot it shows only the .xml text - no graphics or sales pitches.

There's lots of AOL users and they must be seeing the same problem and I am losing them in my rss sponsor links.

Do you want a standalone reader? If not, the latest versions of Firefox and IE should be able to render rss correctly.

Also, I have a couple of different rss-feeds (news-channels, several boards, etc.) added to my personal browser start-page by using this service: http://feed2js.org/. It's very fast and reliable. All you have to do is generate a few lines of javascript and then add it to your html-page.
