Open up your hosts-file on the computer with notepad or some similar text-editor. Where you can find it depends on what version of Windows you are using. Here you can find the locations on different OS-versions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file

Then type in something like

216.239.51.104 myspace.com
216.239.51.104 yahoo.com

This will redirect every request to myspace or yahoo to the IP 216.239.51.104, which is one of Google's. You can change the IP to whatever IP you like. If you use 127.0.0.1 any requests will loop back to your own computer.

Warning: Never ever change or delete the entry
127.0.0.1 localhost in your hosts-file!

You can read more on hosts here: http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/hosts.htm

Morning TNB!

Stopping by to say hi. Still haven't gotten a situation set-up so I can stop in here regularly or do any web work.

OTH looking at June stats. Almost every sponsor I work for did very well for me in June. June was my best month in the last 12 months.

But I didn't do ANYTHING in June.

I wonder if I am onto something.

A post from Matt Cutt's blog:

Hey folks, I wanted to let you know that new toolbar PageRank values should become visible over the next few days. I’m expecting that also in the next few days that we’ll be expiring some older penalties on websites.

http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-pagerank-update/

I'm not much interested in the PR-update but maybe a lift of some penalties could do some good to one or two of my sites.

Hi Vicki,

Wow, long, long, long time.

Hope things have been well for you.

So I should add: <!--#include virtual="index.php" -->
rather than the <!--#include virtual="blog.php" -->
it states, correct?

If you want to call it into index.html you would use the SSI call....but I would call the blog.php - not - index.php.

Having 2 indexes - even though one is php and one is html might be confusing if you haven't looked at it for a while. After a while, one forgets why there are 2 indexes. LOL

<!--#include virtual="blog.php" -->

If you wanted to call index.php because of existing html code on it...you surely could do it that way.

Hey, it's great to see you're still around. Nice to "see" you here again!

yup, still in Vegas. Are you coming out to visit?

Yes, the index.php does indeed have that code in it. I'm wanting to call the blog to a normal index.html page as Tom's instructions describes.
So I should add: <!--#include virtual="index.php" -->
rather than the <!--#include virtual="blog.php" -->
it states, correct?
(provided the index.html page calling the blog is in a different directory)
example: www.whateverdomain.com/index.html calls blog/index.php?

Yeah I know, after all these years I should know this stuff but well .. I haven't coded anything in wayyy too long lol

I didnt know humans can survive in this kind of heat but apparently we can. Its not too pleasant for a wet damp country person like me, but most of the other guests were english and absolutely loved it.

Too hot for me!!!

All the best from a gloriously hot and sunny Scotland (Too hot here aswell!)

Hi Vicki,
It's been a while since I set up a clean copy of the script. Mine are all hacked up a bit....but looking at the download, I see this line:

// BLOG SCRIPT

check to see if your index.php has that line and the subsequent
blog php code below it:

$dirhandle= opendir("data/");
while($filename = readdir($dirhandle)) {
if ($filename != "." && $filename != "..") {
$entries[]="$filename";
}
}

if(count($entries) < 1) {
print("No blog entries yet");
exit;
}

natsort($entries);
$entries = array_reverse($entries);

for($i=0; $i < count($entries); $i++) {

$num++;

if($num <= $entry_number) {

$file = file("data/$entries[$i]");
$file = implode(" ", $file);
$blog = explode("<!-- blog -->", $file);
print("$blog[1]<HR>");
}

}

print("

(( etc. etc. etc. etc. ))

If it does, it appears you can just use index.php without blog.php

give it a shot.

I have a dumb question .. I downloaded your easy blog script today and proceeded to install & customize.
Then I came to this portion of the instructions:
""The good news is there's an easy solution - and it's what I'm using on my blogs.

Follow these steps to be able to customize your blog in an easier way:

1) Rename index.php to blog.php ""

There was already a file named blog.php in the zip file I downloaded ... I looked at that page and don't think you want me to overwrite it ... was that a misprint or am I being blonde again? lol

if you want to get some straight key practice, by the way, there is a straight key sprint coming up 0000Z-0200Z, july 23. believe me, there will be some slow hams and bad fists on the bands.

I haven't had enough time to practise lately. Even at QRS I would do terrible at this time
Listening to CW qso's helps a lot though, I can copy most of a standard qso even at a higher speed.
The new wire antenna is doing great over here. I might as well take down the vertical since I hear the same on the wire.
Conditions were bad here as well on the bands the last weeks.
If the radio is on it's mostly on 40 meters SSB for europe. That always works here.

As far as plugins go: I would guess that about 90% of the plugins that work with normal WP will work on WP MU as well. What you are using depends much on what you want to do. At any rate, I would recommend http://akismet.com/. It helps to prevent comment-spam.

As karla already mentioned, you have to install plugins on your main WP MU-insall in the root domain, then activate them on each individual MU-blog. The same goes for templates. You can have different templates and different plugins for individual blogs as you can see on my blogs above.

to allow wp-mu to create blogs on seperate subdomains instead of folder, i believe it has to be set up in the root of the domain. i also read that regular worpress plugs will work with mu, but there is a specific task you have to perform to get them to work on each individual blog. i'm not sure what that is, but i did read it somewhere in the instructions.

Is someone using Wordpress Multi User?

If so, can you recommend a setup?
Should I have it installed in the root of the domain, or in a folder of the domain?

I like WP MU to create sub directories like milf.mydomain.com and lesbians.mydomain.com, and have the latest entries of all blogs shown on the index page of the domain.

Also I wonder if you can recommend plugins for this setup.

Parking your car in the City, London's financial district, costs on average $68.07 a day, or $1,166.87 a month, while parking in the popular West End entertainment district cost $1,135.76 month,

is that obscene or what?

In the United States, New York City's Midtown was the priciest place to park at $585 a month, followed by the city's Downtown at $462 a month.

"power supply thing" - there ya go, larry...it, surprisingly, IS called a power supply. easy to come by on the internet, a computer shop, or a flea market. they are VERY cheap.

make sure you have the same voltage, amperes, and physicial size that your computer requires (its specifically listed ON the power suppy box, itself)...AND you're in business.

all you have to do is unscrew the old one from the case, unplug it from the connectors, re-connect the new/used one - note that the connectors ONLY can be connected in the proper way (so you can't muck it up) - screw it into place and away you go. its so simple, even a caveman can do it.

the "big bear guarantee" applies: mileage FOR cavemen may vary.

Any advice under what to search under.

farm girl, RE: message #295284:

hi farm girl and good (late) morning tnb!

it won't take you years to learn some basic html. follow ritto's example. as a matter of fact, i learned the "basics" years ago - in much less than a weekend. then i had a page up. it wasn't a very good page, but i took it from there. there is lots of knowledge about creating your own adult sites, pages, and so forth that WILL make money right here at tnb. all you have to do is ask.

in my opinion, i wouldn't waste another bit of time OR money on that "cookie cutter" site. that's just going to prove fruitless. its kind of a costly train wreck.

one of the easiest things to do, right now, is pick a niche that you like and are familiar with, pick a couple of sponsors, and BLOG away. you'd be surprised how simple and easy THAT is, just to get started, even with NO knowledge of html.

wordpress is quite popular and extremely simple to use with little or even NO html knowledge. personally, i like tom's little blog script, he'll even assist you in setting it up on your server. but you'll have to know some "basic" html after that. however, tom has also been known to request photos of your feet in return.

seriously, though, its not difficult to learn the basics and go from there.

good luck!

Hi there

To be honest I would hold off on spending any more on advertising until you are happy that your site has a chance of making the money back. Its not going to do that just now.

Its time for you to learn how to create a page of your own. You are goingto be very shocked at how easy that is, I was. It was my daughter that showed me, within 10 minutes I had the basics and everything else from there after was just learning the fancy stuff. It can be done and you will do it

We dont condone copying but I do readily advise finding a simple page on the internet that you like and looking at the html code for that page. Thats how I learnt most of my html, by copying (did I say that?) and changing and playing with the code, bit by bit, until I could predict the results. Change the font sizes, add in some extra line spaces, etc... In no time at all you will understand. Just try it.

Remember that at a push you can write / edit your html pages in a plain text editor, as long as you name your pages mypage.html (ie add the .html to the end instead of .txt)

I'm away for a week or longer so thats plenty time to get yourself a test page loaded up on your webspace. This is not a chore, its a chance to learn something new Catch you later ...

As for a WYSIWYG editor, I suggest Microsoft Expression Web. I bought it and I have found that I like it better than I did FrontPage (plus, it isn't nearly as expensive as Dreamweaver!).

Yep, its time to learn html or possibly take the other route, try a WYSIWYG webpage editor. I've never used one so cant say good or bad about them.

As for your current website. I've looked at it a number of times trying to work out what it is. Its not a paysite with a members area, it just seems to be a TGP (thumb nail gallery post) style of page. Tgp sites can make money but only based on two factors.

1. It has to have thousands of visitors a day, perferably tens of thousands.

2. Or, it has to be specialised, dealing with a very specific niche. This site is trying to include every niche under the sun eg big tits, teens, milf, cumshots, mature, etc, etc.

And the rest of the site just looks like a series of big adverts. Adverts are fine, but best worked in and around the content where they are more likely to be seen. Every visitor to this site is going to scroll past all the adverts looking for the content.

There are plenty ways to work in the adverts, and once you have learnt to edit your pages then we can show examples and give advice.

But until you can edit / change / create pages then we are really banging our head off the the wall. Theres nothing we can do.

Tu use a car as an example. We can give you directions to get you from A to B, and which roads to avoid. But if you cant drive in the first place then whats the point. Sorry, its as simple as that.

Now then, time to either learn html or get a free wysiwyg html editor and learn how to use it

Quick question ...
Do you own your domain and pay web hosting for it? If so then you must have the ftp (file transfer protocal) details that allow you to login into the account and upload html files, and pictures. That means you can create your own experimental pages in the background for you to learn with. Go check your paperwork to confirm what you actually paid for. You will need the login details or else you'll have to pay extra for a new domain and hosting, and we dont want that to happen!

Hi F.G.,

The site you showed us is a "cookie cutter" site.

In order for it ( or any other site to be successful ), it needs to have traffic.

Some of the best traffic is search engine traffic.
In order to receive SE traffic, the site needs to be optimized with keyword specific title, text and heading tags, among other things.
There is virtually no S.E. usable text within your site as it stands now.

In addition, the site doesn't really have a focus other than being various hardcore.

To put it nicely, I would not put much time into this site as it stands today....but instead,
if your serious about earning income online - learn HTML.
It's not hard but it does take an effort to learn it - like anything else.

Do a search for "learn HTML free" or something similar.
It's been so long ago that I learned it I can't point you to a good online free source....but there's no question there are alot of sources out there.

Maybe someone here can post a link that they know of.

Once you begin to learn HTML, you can start to create sites that will get SE traffic, sites that can be listed within link lists, tgps, etc. etc. and gain traffic through a variety of methods.

You can always post here as you're learning and the folks here will respond to your questions and examples.

I spent many an hour reading those archives. I remember trying to print one off to read later and the ridiculous amount of paper that it required! Some mistakes you only make once

One day I'm going to search the archives to see when I made my first post. It must have been at least 4 years ago if not a bit longer.

Wow.. I haven't been to this board in years I remember when it started - I actually think I still have some of the archives saved on an old laptop, since I used to so save them all so I could take them with me and read the board while on the road

Hey F.G.

You have a typo in your URL

it appears to be - I think anyway -
PinkAndDripping.com/

note the extra "D"

oh btw,
it's not really proper etiquette to type in ALL CAPS.
it gives the appearance of shouting.
This board is very tolerant as it's a newbie ---->+
board, but other WM boards won't be.
Just a heads-up!
