Auto Submitters
An adult webmaster resource...
Speaking of submitting - I wanted to make a few notes on auto-submitters, my ideas, experiences, and some other notes about 'em.
What is an auto-submitter?
The average adult webmaster spends 80% of their time filling out forms on the web.
While that's obviously not true - there's no getting away from the fact that, in this job, we're going to do a lot of submissions! Whether you're adding your latest URL to the search engines, or submitting to a set of TGPs - Internet forms are going to be a BIG part of your working life. An autosubmitter is basically a piece of software which is designed to do this job for you.
There are a number of auto-submitters out there (which we'll look at in a second) and there seem to be new ones popping up all the time too. An auto-submitter is a bit of software which, ideally, acts as YOU - and goes out there and submits a page you give it to wherever you want to list that page. You can get auto-submitters for the search engines, TGPs, TGP2s, link lists - and every other type of traffic sender there is out there.
How do they work?
The basic idea is simple. Though you'll have noticed that most TGPs say have slight differences in their submission forms, they are still very similar. They want your URL, recip URL, email and so on. Well an auto submitter keeps a list, or 'database', of possible URLs you could submit to and stores their individual requirements. Then it asks you for things like your URL, email and so on and then matches the info required to the info that you give it. Finally, it submits that info - just as you would when you press the submit button on a form.

Do they work?
There's a saying that I really like - "don't believe the HYPE!" and while it's important not to be too cynical in this business, it's also wise to er on the side of caution when it comes to promotional HYPE! The websites for all of these products claim that these tools will streamline your business, give you hundreds of thousands of visitors each day, and even make you rich! Is it that simple? In reality - NO!
Some webmasters LOVE auto-submitters and do use them, especially on the TGPs. I myself have played with a number of the major ones with varying success. Some webmasters absolutely loath them, claiming they can only lead to black-listing and trouble. It's important to realize that these things are not a magic answer - only a tool which, in some cases, can speed up your submissions.
How much do you trust the software?
One general rule of thumb, from software to software, and webmaster to webmaster is to do the REALLY important submissions by hand. It doesn't matter how good your software is, it's not worth leaving the really important link lists and TGPs to it's mercy. But your auto-submitter can be a really hand tool to hit the medium and small sized link lists and TGPs which would take more time to submit to than might be worthwhile.
Making the mirror pages...
If you're planning to get any kind of traffic from TGPs and from link lists, then mirroring your pages is essential. This is where you copy one page over and over so that you've got lots of clones of it on your webspace. Then you add in hundreds of links back to the link lists or TGPs (4 per page) and submit the relevant page to the relevant link lists. (Eg. submit page with recips 1 - 4 to link lists 1 - 4 so they can see their link back...)
Auto-submitters do all of this for you. For me, this is one of the best features of them, and arguably worth paying the money for in the first place. Making mirror pages and adding in those recip links can be a real pain in the ass. So if you were to only ever use an auto-submitter for this purpose - hey, it would probably be well worth it just for that.
Database updates and edits...
The database or 'list of sites' is a big factor in choosing and using an auto-submitter. If you have an out-of-date submitter, then most of your submissions will fail and the traffic will be LOW! Some submitters come with a database YOU can edit, which can be very handy, and all should have regular updates. How regular those updates come in reality is another thing...
Failures & a twist...
When you use an autosubmitter - they will each tell you just how many of your submissions were successful. It's important to realize that a large proportion of your submissions with these bits of software WILL bring up some kind of error. I've always hit 50% success 50% failure rate, whatever bit of software I use. But one thing that most webmasters forget is that this could be down to one of THREE things:
1) The autosubmitter failed / is not allowed to auto-submit here.
2) The site / page broke the rules - nothing to do with the software.
3) The submission went through OK - the error is something insignificant.
Conclusion...
Adult webmaster submission tools are not some big con. There are a lot of happy customers out there in cyberspace right now using them, and getting good results. It seems to be a case of doing the big, important ones by hand and finding the right submitter for YOU. (Sadly, unless there's a trial version - this could get COSTLY!) It seems that there's not 'best' auto submitter - and everyone seems to recommend something different. As always - you're going to have to test these things out for yourself. They're not that tough to use (any of them) and they CAN be of some use...
GOOD LUCK!
